If you are going to shoot only 150 grain bullets, a 1 in 12 twist is great, but if at some point you want to shoot heavier bullets, you should go with a 1 in 10 twist. I would opt for the 1in 10 twist.

+1

The 1 in 10 will shoot almost any weight bullet in the 300 RUM but the 1 in 12 wont.

I agree with all the above - 10" twist will get you anywhere you want to go - I've shot 110 vmax's up to 230 bergers out of my RUM - infact, I've not found a bullet it did'nt like....

Re: 300rum twist rate for 150gr accubonds

In the late 90's I did a 300 RUM with a 1-14 twist specifically to shoot 150 grain bullets as a point and shoot lazer to 600 or so yards as a whitetail beanfield rifle for a guy. It shot great and the velocity was incredible with the slower twist. Only do the slower twist if it is a specialty rifle for one purpose. If you plan on shooting out toward 1000 yards with it get a 1-10 and shoot heavier bullets. But for a point and shoot 600 yard lazer it is fun to shoot. I carried it to Alaska caribou hunting and it made caribou amazingly easy. That was when rangefinders were just coming on the market and none were worth a flip on the tundra. So a rifle like this with very little drop was the way to go. Now with good rangefinders the light and fast point and shoot way is dying out since drop is not as important. Now wind is the primary factor since rangefinders solve the drop problem. Didn't use to be that way though.

I have a 300Ultra Christensen Arms with a 1 in 10 twist. It will shoot 150 Nosler Ballistic Tips and 150 TTSX's ahead of 103 grs Retumbo into the same hole. Some groups have measured .345''. Noslers for varmints and 150 TTSX for deer and black bear. Velocity averages 3600 fps.

For elk its the 168TTSX and 97 grains Retumbo.
