Re: 300 SMK@ 1000 YARDS- Penetration ?
[QUOTE=Broz;289959]Here is some personal experiences with the 300 SMK I can share to try to help with your question. This Elk was at 526 yards and as you can see the bullet in the shoulder didn't exit. The elk traveled 30 to 50 yards and was dead. The other info I have is from a Kansas doe I shot at 1137 yards last Dec. The 300 SMK passed clean through entering the ribcage angeling toward the rear and passed clean through. The deer folded up in her tracks.
The elk is a good example of the size and toughness of animal we are dealing with.
My thinking is that if the shot landed higher on the animal than the point of aim we would have spined him.. and that did not happen. This suggests close to the POA high lungs behind the shoulder blade.
I spoke to an outfitter friend of mine that has watched hundreds of deer get shot at all ranges and he said he has seen heaps of deer react in exactly the same way.. and all of them were hit fatally.
He also said he had never seen one react like that that was hit poorly..
Heres hoping I quess ?
With each step in the bush, you are a step closer.
