300 RUM barrel life

how many shots can a stainless barrel take before accuracy starts to fall off and how can a person extend the life of the barrel. If I get a load or two that my gun likes I would like to keep it that way as long as I can.

Most mags will hold peak accuracy on SS barrels for about 1000 rds. CM barrels give better life that SS.

Rapid shots (ie heat) will accelerate erosion of throat.

    Cleanliness will enhance life.

Temp of powder on firing will either accelerate or slow erosion. Slow burning powders tend to be better at barrel life.

Good bore rod and bore guide will protect the throat and bore.

Only mag I have found that seems to differ from that is the WSMs. For some reason we are getting at least 2x barrel life with hot loads and max pressures.

May I ask you to explain the difference of SS barrels and CM barrels?

I, personally, would like to see proof that CM barrels will outlast SS barrels. Why are all the "Match Grade" barrels, used in all types of shooting diciplines, made of SS?

Ive read claims (Lilja website,FAQ) of just the opposite. That SS is more erosion resistant. For match grade barrels,Ive just always opted for SS.

The Carbon Steel barrel on my 30/06 lasted for 3000 rounds.
Then I had another barrel put on it. Still have that rifle
