300 Norma Mag std VS Improved - 3200fps A-max?
Does anyone have any experience with the new 300 Norma Mag, I'm wondering if it will get a 208gr A-Max up to 3100 to 3200 fps out of a 26-28" barrel.
And I'm wondering how it compares to one of the improved versions like the 300Jazz, 300 Hulk, or 30 Nawakwa . . . In terms of case capacity, velocity increase, and ease of feeding.
This is to be primarily a hunting rig, so feeding and reliability is important, and I'm wonding if the steep shoulder angle and minimal body taper on the "improved" versions of this cartridge will give me any trouble.
I could also use imput on barrel length, I read somewhere that the standard 300 norma mag worked very well in only a 26" barrel . . . is that generally correct? or would I see a significant jump in velocity (or reduced muzzle blast) with a longer barrel?
And of course, same barrel length question regarding the improved versions.

Re: 300 Norma Mag std VS Improved - 3200fps A-max?
I am about a month out from my 300 NORMA being finished. Using a 28" bbl. I spoke with MR. Sloan some time ago and was advised to expect around 3175 fps with the 208.
When it is up and going I'll post updates.

So what is the advantage of this cartridge? It's performance seems identical to the 300rum. Is the case more efficient? Short action? Better brass? just curious.....

I was hoping it might slightly surpass the RUM, as I haven't heard too many reports of the RUM making 3100-3200 fps with the 208, A-max ... which is my goal (for the moment)
I'm also not sure how the powder capacity compares to the RUM, but I imagine it is very similar, only in a shorter case that allows the bullet to be seated in a standard magazine while not pressed so far back in the case. (Still a long action though)
As for brass, I don't know how good the RUM brass is, I've never looked into it much...but I hear the 300 Norma is top quality stuff.

Re: 300 Norma Mag std VS Improved - 3200fps A-max?
Ok, thats kind of what i was figuring. I really like the idea of this cartridge. I am currently using the 210 Sierra Matchkings in my 300rum at 3170fps with a 26" bbl. They are very similar to the Berger VLDs but seem to group better for me. I have a early M700LSS 300rum (2000) and it has a ton of freebore which makes it almost a perfect throat for the 210's. But it doesnt so well at fitting in the magazine. This doesnt bother me for hunting purposes as here in california we can only hunt with lead free ammo, and the 165gr GMX bullets shoot lights out. But it would still be nice the get my target rounds in the mag, and use the far superior Norma brass. I will be seriously considering this cartridge for my upcoming build.

I am also considering a 300 Norma of some sort. I have heard the standard 300 Norma is deadly accurate but is the Jazz faster with the 30 degree shoulder? It sounds like true blue had great accuracy with his Jazz but is it going to be worth getting custom dies ect?
