Re: 30 / 8mm Rem Mag

The 30/8mm is also known as the "308 Super".
It's the 8mm Mag necked down to 308 diameter.
Had one or two of these chamberings years ago for the 1000 yard matches at Williamsport.

It's a good cartridge but, most people like the 35 degree shoulder on the 308 Baer or 308 Goodling cartridges better then the 25 degree on the 308 Super.
Both cartridges mentioned above were made from the 300 Weatherby cases.

Other info
The 7mm STW is made from the 8mm Mag case with no other change other then necking down to 284" diameter.

    30 / 8mm Rem Mag

gents -did a search - and nothing - have listened to and about 223 to 416 - but nothing on this wildcat , can anybody help with some insight - I really would like a comparison between the 300RUM , 300 weatherby etc and the 30/8mm Rem Mag , I would think it would be a great long range choice . thanks

    Re: 30 / 8mm Rem Mag

compararison between big 30 ( base on 300 HH or 404 ) need to be made with the same barrel lenght

big magnum have poor performance in short barrel and get the best with long pipe over 30 inch to be able to burn all powder

nice points with 30/8 REM ( 30 STW ) is
case can be made with 8 REM ( of course ) but with 300 HH from Winchester or weatherby case or 375 HH from RWS
load dies are not too costly and some 7 STW Redding or Forster can be modified in 30/8 REM

on this board there is now JBM wich own a 308 Millard that a full improved 30/8 REM

after if you want really reach longer distance 300 Ultra is the way to go

Note : regular 300 Weatherby with match throat is very very accurate

    good shooting
