30-378 your pet loads?

I just acquired a 30-378 26 inch fluted barrel and 2 inch brake for LRH. I'm going on a Utah elk hunt. I've been looking at some of the web site reloading data.

It appears that 200 gr or 220 are popular. What are you guys using.

I use 106 gr Retumbo 200 Accubond FedGM215 primers 338-378 cases necked down and turned to lightly clean all the way around, Standard full length RCBS sizer. Mine are seated so they just clear the notch in the port when ejecting a loaded round. Waiting on a new 30" barrel will be trying some 240MK H50BMG and Retumbo combinations with it when it gets here. The 220 MK's will knock a hole the size of a softball through the side of a deer at 500 and the 200 Accubonds will put them through neck to butt what looks like a 1 inch core drill if you hit them high facing you at 665.

I've been searching the net. I would not have bought a 26 inch. The buddy who bought it wanted a 50 BMG. then when he got to reading state rules of only sub 20 pound guns are legal. He could have had a 28 made or even a 30 inch. But it comes back to packing ability.

The Barnes 200's with 7828, H1000, R-25 look pretty good with a .530 BC. Like anybody can get the 300-400 yard deer or Elk. So he bought nice scope and round to really do it

I think you'll find barnes prints "optimistic" bc values, some say out right lie. If it were me and I wanted a load for elk I would shoot the 220gr MK. They penetrate very well, and leave some nasty wounds. 4-500yds should be too easy.

i would try the 200gr Accubond, seems to shoot good out all the big 30 cal's

I am also running the 200 gr accubonds with a 30 " broughton 1-10twist
with 105 gr retumbo at 3480 fps and they shoot sub 1/2 inch! I like the 210 jlks too but you cant get anymore.

This looks like what I'm going to go test out to 1000 yards. I'd like to find a hunting type boat tail. As for the powder the H870 is something I already have a few pounds of.
