Thinking about rechambering a 300 win mag I have into a 30/375 Ruger using the following reamer
The case capacity of the 300 win mag is 87 grs and the 30/375 Ruger will be 93.6 grs. The reamer should clean the chamber up but the barrel may have to be set back a thread or two.
The advantages are that it will get rid of the belt and the inordinate amount of head clearance on new cases that the 300 win mag has (presently .019" with Nosler brass). The additional 6.3 grs of capacity should enable loading the 200 gr bullets to an honest 3000 fps and the 180 gr to 3200 fps, which is all but undoable with 300 win mags. Should still be able to shoot it without a muzzle brake which is impossible for me with the 300RUM (over 110 gr capacity).
The rifle I have is an 8 pound rifle with a 24" Lothar Walther barrel.
The biggest problem is dies. I can have dies made once I have a fire formed case but getting there is the problem. I suppose I can neck down the original 375 Ruger cases with a 300RCM neck die and once I have a fire formed case then I can send to Lee and Redding for a Collet Die and Body Die.
Any other suggestions?
