>280 Remington velocity

Can someone tell me what realistic velocity could be achieved with a .280 Remington shooting a 150-gr bullet in a 23 Krieger barrel?

I have cronyied my 280 at 2850fps with RL19 that was out of my 22" barrel before i made it a 280AI, the 280 is a wonderful cartridge that doesnt get alot of fame its not the biggest or badest it doesnt chew up barrels and it wont kick the crap out of you when you shoot it. what it does is do its job and do it well.

with a 154 hornady sst quickload predicts just a tad under 2950 as max velocity w/n saami pressure. It has been fairly accurate thus far.
I admit that I know just enough to be dangerous.....but dangerous at ever extending distances.

280 Remington, good choice

Depending on how you load it, you'll get 2800+ out of a 23" barrel.
I'm not gonna shoot here. I'm gonna shoot waaaaaaaay over there!

Between 2880 to 2950 fps (Nosler BT 150 grain). These from 24" Douglas XX on my Custom Argentine Mauser 1909.

To achieve the maximum possible accuracy, all variables must be remove or at least minimize.

I am hesitant to give out my load data, but I get 2975 using Nosler 150BTs and PTs. I use h4350, which some consider a little fast. I am loading to SAAMI specs "<FOR A 270Win>". According to Quick Loads I'm just under 62000psi. My gun is a Zastava action with a 26" Shaw barrel. You can go from there. capt david

Hey, the .280 is a great cartridge! I currently own a 24" Rem 700SS. I run 154 Hornady Interlocks right at 3000fps with 59-60grs of H4831 depending on lot. I've run 154s at 3015 with 61grs R-22. Quickload says that velocity with R-22 still under 62Kpsi. Since you're asking, the slower powders give the best velocity with less pressure. R-22, N165 are the best for me.

My basic velocity ceilings for the 280Rem in a 24" bbl is 3150 for 139s/140s, 3025 for 150s/154s, just at 3000 for 160s. With proper powder selection only though.

By the way, I've lurked a while here...nice site.
