.277 guys? What is your fastest 100 grain load?

It was a nice day today and we took out several guns to Chrono. Within acceptable pressures today in my 29 inch barrel 270 AI with 61.4 grains of imr 4350 cci #250 mag primers loaded @ .003 from the lands of my .300 throated barrel. I had a max of 3598 and a low of 3589 fps on a 10 shot read out.

I should also say my standard .270 with a 26 inch barrel with 52 grains of 4320 and mag 250 primers had flat primers also, with @3410 av. behind 100 gr. moly coated

I also had loaded up some 150 spbt with 62.4 grains of 7828 cci 250 and had @3320 fps out of the AI. It has actually gone faster with H1000 with 64.2 grains. But you only have a case life of reloading 3-4 times and the primer pockets get loose and some cracked necks. The most accurate loads are down in the 3260 - 3280 range with 60.9 7828 or 60.4 of r-22

Sako 270 Win with a standard 23"/24" barrel: 3568 fps with 110gr GS HV bullet. Worked up some more and found pressure at just under 3650 fps so we stayed with 3560 for a hunting load.

What powder were you using? Year ago Speer or Sierra made a 110 grain boat tail. They had enough of a better BC that they would work better than 100 grain hp or sp at 250+ yards. I should have bough 1000's of them while they still sold them.

I am afraid I am not able to be of much help with the powder. I am in South Africa and we have very limited choices with our locally manufactured powder. I used a duplex load with 54gr S365 and 5gr of S335. Have a look at this Burn Rate Chart to see where these powders fit into the big scheme of things. The 110gr HV bullet used is very long for weight at 1.16" and wants a one in 10" twist for best terminal performance.

In topic:
I'm looking for something lighter for my 270WSM (in the 115gr area). Whats the best long range bullet? Right now I'm using 130gr nozler BT's.

OT, sorry al
Hey Gerard - I just saw a show on MSNBC today about the HUGE jackle problem in south africa (killing domestic sheep). The professional hunter looked like he had a standard hunting gun and cheap scope - but it did show him kill one jackle at 200 or so yards.
I think some of us would be happy to come and help with the Jackle problem. Anything for world peas
