270wsm vs300wsm vs 7mm wsm

How do these ballistics compare to each other. Looking for a new fun and it will be one of these 3. Will be for lower 48, and shooting to 1000 yds. I shoot to 700+ with my 257favorite so looking to step it up

Based on opinion & personal experience, is go 300WSM, first choice, 270WSM a VERY close second

all great rounds and have really great purposes. The 270. wsm is the only wsm that really offers anything over there standard cartridge. But i still feel that the 300. wsm would be my choice. I love this cartridge.

Re: 270wsm vs300wsm vs 7mm wsm

For hunting, there is not much difference between the 270 and 7mm WSMs. The 7mm has a better selection of bullets and the 270 wsm will be around longer by far ... Good choices for deer at 400 or 600 yards. After that the power falls off rather rapidly.

The 300WSM is almost a different animal. And is the best of the three for killing something at 1000 yards.

You haven't said what weight bullet you want to shoot and how fast. If you are talking heavy-for-calliber bullets, then the 30 cal 200 grain is hard to beat.

Good luck with the build.

Re: 270wsm vs300wsm vs 7mm wsm

Well from my what I've seen 7wsm and 300WSM aren't too far apart, and IMO the 7WSM edges out the 300 comparing a 162 A-max @ 3000 and a 208 A-max @ 2800. I don't have my book sitting right here so my speed may be a bit off. The 7mm has less drop and drift. The 300WSM has about 10% more energy at 1k. The 7mm has over 100fps over the 300 at 1k. I haven't looked into comparing the 180 VLD .284 and the 210 VLD in the .308, it may favor the 7mm even more. The 270WSM @ 3100 with a 150 VLD has about 25% less energy at 1k than the 7mm. Drop is pretty equal and velocity is a little slower than the 7. I may be a little off on my WSM velocities, If I am let me know. I think more can be had out of the 7WSM with a 162, probably close to 3100. The 300WSM might be tough to make 2900 with a 208.

Ok. I think I've eliminated the 270day mostly because of the higher BC's of the 7mm. Plus I would like to run a 160new grain bullet or so

Re: 270wsm vs300wsm vs 7mm wsm

The 270 WSM will run the 150's around 3250ish, the 165 and 175 run in the 3000-3100FPS range, with good bullets running from the .500 BC to the low .700's BC the 270 has the BC advantage on the top end over the 7 and 300 WSM, better brass and availability to the 7mmWSM as well. A 270 WSM throated for the 150+ gr bullets in a 1-9 twist is the ticket, IMO which is totally biased
