25-06 ai

Going thru some data for this caliber even though I have a ways to go before I can sit downand start reloading ( Get scope zero'd in....fire form my casings...etc)

I come across this load that sounds REAL interesting..
55grains of RL-22. 115 gr Barnes-X and it sails along at 3100 FPS....

This load sounds like quite a few in the 270 or 264 Mag or.??..class and I was wondering how a 115-120 gr slug at 3000 Plus fps performs for others.

Any help appreciated

That is slllllloooooooowwwwwww. I was just reading an featured article on here about the 25-06 AI and it has me thinking as well. The .25-06 and .25-06 Improved RL-22 is not a choice powder for that round I believe. I think he was throwing 120gr pills around 3320 FPS. I bet with the TTSX's lower pressures and lighter weight you would see closer to 3400+! That is nearing .257 Roy status.

Re: 25-06 ai

Forgot to mention, my dad has hunted with the .257 Roy for 40 years now and I can attest, it is an elk killing machine!!! Even with the 100gr bullets he likes to shoot. I now have him shooting the 110gr accubond.

Re: 25-06 ai

With the AI you should be able to beat 3100 fps by at least 150 fps with 115 grain bullets. I would expect quite a bit more.

Today I went out with 59.5 grains of Retumbo and a 115 grain berger seated into the lands. The slowest load was 3125 average and the fastest was 3250? The 3250 was quite perplexing because the only difference was the primer. I would think with the right 115 grain bullet and a 26" barrel one could get 3300 fps out of the 25-06AI

Re: 25-06 ai

I would like to clarify, that load was out of a standard 25-06 barrel and, my load is safe in my rifle etc... work up.
