.243 105gn A-max not stabilizing

I just bought a remington SPS .243 and mounted it in a Bell and Carlson A5. I worked up a load for the 87gn V-MAX and the 105gn A-max. With the 105 I had 39.7gn of h4350 and I was getting 2805 fps. It/I was shooting .75MOA at 100yds, 1.5 MOA at 200yds and 18" groups at 450 yds. With the 87gn I was shooting .5-.75 Moa at all distances. Has anyone else had a problem with the 105 stabilizing in their Remington. My twist rate is 1 in 9.125

Re: .243 105gn A-max not stabilizing

The 105 amax has to long of a bearing surface to fully stabilize in a 1:9 1/8 twist especially at that MV, they should be put through 1:8 twist at 2850-2950fps, try the 95grn vld or 90grn lapua at over 3k fps.

I will get some of those 95gn bullets and try them. I wanted a couple of bullets for this gun. A lighter bullet for varmits and a heavier one for longer range applications.

Yeah they will stabilize at that altitude, and your running them probably about 2930ish I'm guessing?

Re: .243 105gn A-max not stabilizing

I bought the SPS Varmint and my neighbor had some laying around so i hired a few and it was about .75 moa at 100 yards, .5 moa at 200 yards which i found weird and past that it was all over the place. i really wanted to fire the 105 grain for coyote, long range, and whitetail. but looks like i may have to drop down to 95 grain.
