Re: 230 Berger in the 30-378?

They seem to fit right into the 30-378 and my opinion is they do away with some of the diminishing returns of the oversized 378 case when used with a 30 cal. The accuracy nodes we have seen are better than that of the 30-378 with 210's. The bullet works very well with the standard 1 in 10 twist too. Get some H-1000 and Fed 215's, seat em at oal 3.800" and work up a load. I think you will be pleased.

Thank you Jeff I saw your response on the Bee forum.

Unfortunately my quick-load does not list the 230 gr berger.

Just wondering what kind of velocity I can get 3000-3100 fps would be great.

I do get 3275 fps with the 210 .

Re: 230 Berger in the 30-378?

My accuracy node with the 210 was a couple hundred slower than yours. I used H-1000 and looked for a large accuracy node and low ES. We did the same thing with the 230's and found a good node at close to the same velocity. Have never seen pressure signs with either of the loads so there sure could be another node at a higher charge. We didn't push it to extend brass life. The Hodgdens site has some data for some 220 gr bullets and that is what we used for a starting point. I was reluctant to post our charge as I was thiking you might be using a different headstamp brass and I don't know the volume of it. I think you can get to 3000 plus. But if it were me I would look at the ES and the node first. I have seen these bullets in action from a 300 win with a MV 2775 first hand for many kills to 1000 yards. They do a good job of defying wind and are a very good long range killer too. I would think that 2 to 300 added fps would only enhance all of their awesome traits.

Jeff

Re: 230 Berger in the 30-378?

I have never been interested in a 30-378, but I can see where this bullet could be a game changer. It seems that this combo could be a competitor with the big 338's as far as long range accuracy is concerned.
