220 swift/6mm

So heres a question thats been in my mind for a while. Has anyone necked up a 220 swift to take a 243 bullet? Or would you petty much just be making a very expensive 6mm rem.?
The 220 swift is maybe even harder to find brass for than the 6mm. It was just a thought I had. Not looking to build one, just was curious.

Re: 220 swift/6mm

That's where it started at, the 6mm Navy was the basis for the Swift.

Re: 220 swift/6mm

Yeah just like was stated it was originally designed as a 6mm Lee Navy cartridge designed to be efficient in a short barreled navy carry rifle, didn't pan out, it was wildcatted as 22x6mm navy, adopted by Winchester and named the 220 swift. I would imagine in a 24-26" barrel its performance would be similar to a 6xc but harder on barrels.

6mm x .220 Swift,,,,,,,,,,,, an oldie but goodie fro the early '50s, known then as .240 Cobra! Although, it uses a 'blown-out' (kinda' Ackleyfied) Swift case. Nothin' new here!
"Shoots real good!": definition; it didn't blow-up in my face. 1993 graduate Montgomery Community College 2yr. gunsmithing program
