208 Amax for Elk?

I have recently changed the load for my 300 RUM from a 210 Berger to a 208 Amax. Will the Amax be a good bullet for large game like elk and black bear? I'm sure it will work fine for whitetail which is what I hunt the majority of the time. But if I can stay with one load/bullet it will simplify things. Thanks in advance for your help.

I think they are a great round. Yes they are not as tough as other but this is long range hunting. For shoots under 300 yards there are better bullets but for shoots after 300 I think they are one of the better choices.

I say use them. amaxs have been great for everything i have used them on. I think the 208 would be great for elk sized game. polymer tip will almost guarantee expansion at lower velocities. and it is 208 gr. if it retains 50% of its weight at 700 yards you will have 104gr. going through and 104gr. inside the elk

I would agree with the above replies as far as a good "LONG RANGE" bullet for elk but I would stay away from shoulder shots except at very long range. This bullet will expand even more quickly (violently) than a Berger at high velocity which also makes it more consistent than a Berger at lower velocity...Rich

Ive used the 162 out of an 7stw and as long as you get it in the front part of the animal it dies and dies quickly. shoulder boner or not it will make a dead elk out to 1000.

I have to give my opinion. Not pissing, just opinion.

Don't do it. They are not designed to hunt big game. You are tempting fate to have a terminal ballistic problem. Use a bullet that is designed to hunt big game and expand down to 1800fps and stay within that range.
