1964 700 BDL Mountain Rifle

Hi guys.....I picked up this old '06 Mountain rifle today for $400 and it is in really nice shape for a '64 model. I don't think it has been fired much judging by the boltface and lugs. The bore looks great! I'm going to use it primarily to test my bullets so I don't wear out my spendy rifle It just has a cheap tasco scope with a one piece leupold or Redfield mount? Anybody know what these are normally worth?.The guys dad owned it and carried it around in his pickup so the bluing is rubbed off the muzzle and it has had some finish touched up....Rich

Looks like a good "truck gun" to me. You got a good deal on it if the condition's good inside. The last '60's m700 I saw in a gun store was in good but not new condition and was between 5 and 6 hundred.
The older rem's had good barrels and were usually good guns. It may not like your (spendy rifle's) load so keep that in mind. Most of the time when I get into another barrel in the same caliber I have to at least tweak the load for accuracy.

Ya, I've had good luck with the old remingtons as well. The triggers are usually better than the new ones too. I'm not concerned about it liking my bullets as far as accuracy, but I do a lot of testing for expansion at low velocities. This will be the primary use, but I may want to carry it occasionally for brushy country hunts, etc........rich

If is has a correct serial number you could use it or sell it for an M40A-1 build.
