190smk in 308?
Has anyone used the 190gr smk from a 24" barreled 308, and if so how did it perform...What velocities did you get, and how was accuracy...
Thanks in advance...

At 300 meters from a 26" barrel, accuraCY WAS @ 1/2 - 3/4 moa. they used about 1/2 the wind as a 168. In fact, they fly very close to a 175. I didn't have a chrono available.

I've tossed moly coated 190SMKs from my 26" 1-12 twist .308, Rem700 VS. Using 42 and 43gr RL15. Didn't chrono them, but routine accuracy was around .5 moa. Only shot them at 200 yards.

bro.
190's in a 308 the load I had worked up shot flatter than 175's to 1 grand. Had them floating in at about 34 MOA. If you want the load post in the hooch it is not for public consumptoin.

Re: 190smk in 308?
The best load for my 24" 11.25 twist 308 is 41 grains RL-15 and the 190 SMK at 2600 FPS and it averages less than 1" at 300 yards (3 shot)The best I can do w/175 SMK is 2" at 300 yards with MV of 2554 FPS. The 190 makes sense to me

Re: 190smk in 308?
Curious Question for those shooting 190 gr anything out of a 1:12 twist. How'd you get them to stabilize? Before I put my new 11:27 twist Rock barrel on my .308 rifle, I couldn't get the pervious 1:12 twist barrel to stabilized my 175 gr bullets.
I can't imagine getting .5 accuracy with a 1:12, but more power to you if you're getting it.

Re: 190smk in 308?
Before I tried the 190s in my 1-12 barrel, I emailed the techs at Sierra asking about how they would stabilize. They went to the trouble to load up a batch at around 2200 fps and shot them in their testing facility. Their results were a .5" groups at 200 yards. After hearing that, I loaded some up and they shoot fine.
Interestingly, Berger recommends 1-13 for their 175gr VLD, 1-12 twist for their 190gr VLDs, and 1-11 for their 210gr VLDs.
