190 Berger 30-378

I made the fatal mistake of going into the local gun shop right before Christmas. They had a used Weatherby Mark V Accumark 30-378 with a Swarovski 4 x 12-50 scope. The shop owner told me the previous owner sighted it in and never did anything after that. I went back after Christmas and it was still there, so I put a deposit on it. It's coming home soon, like this week.

Anyways got some 210 Bergers on order, but have 146 Berger 190 VLD's on hand that I would like to develope a load with. After running some numbers through Quickload it looks like 100.5 gns of H-1000 is a good starting place. Any thoughts?

Thanks guys
Tom

Tom, I have loaded many of the 210's in several 30-378's with h-1000 and a fed 215 Primer in Wby brass.

My go to load with the 210's is 98 gr of H-1000 and seating them at 3.800" so they will cycle through the mag box of the Accumark.

So your proposed 100.5 gr load with 190's should be right in there. But I would start below and work up as powder lots do vary in pressure.

Note my 210 load of 98 gr was not a hot load and I could have gone higher. But best accuracy was there and brass life was very good even in the soft wby brass.

    Jeff

PS: The 210 load was used to take the elk below that is holding up my Accumark 30-378

Thanks Jeff, I'm anxious to try your load. A good friend loads his 30-378 at 100 grains of H-1000 because that number is easy for him to remember. It shoots pretty good out of both of his guns, but there is ALLWAYS room for improvement and nothing like a good azz kicking at the range.

    Jeff,

Just wanted to say thanks for the load. Went right to the 98 gr H1000 with 210 Berger Hunting and first two shots at 200 yds were touching, the third was an inch to the side with similar elevation. Pretty happy with that, saved my barrel a lot of test rounds!! Did have to shorten them up to 3.74 coal to get them to eject out of Accumark while still loaded.

I noticed in a later post you were using 230grn hybrids, wondered if you ever hunted with them? Can't find any more 210 hunting bullets and only have about 50 more. Berger says they will run them again in Oct?

    Thanks again!!
