160 accubond vs 168 berger

Been loading both bullets in my 7mm stw both sub moa at times .5 inch. Trying to set up my new CDS and cant decide on which bullet. I have yet to have to take a 500 or longer shot with most 400 and under so far but obviously have the gun to go deep. Which one would be the better all around bullet in your opinion. I am a bit concerned with the bergers inside of 200 but i was told not too worry.

Re: 160 accubond vs 168 berger

I've killed more deer inside of 100 yards with Bergers compared to beyond. No worries. I suppose I'd go with whichever one shoots most consistently to your satisfaction. I think the AB is tougher but the Berger will have a more attractive flight pattern. I think there is lower risk of failure with the AB but more energy with the Berger further down range.

Personally, I'd go with the Berger

Re: 160 accubond vs 168 berger

Thanks that is good to know. Both are excellent with accuracy out of my gun. Had to go 1.5-2 grains more to push the berger to 3150 which is where i stopped due to the .5 inch group. With 80 grains of h1000 the AB's are 3220 also under .75 to .5" guess i have a good problem

Load both and makea couple of drop charts to reference. Then when you go on a hunt, flip a coin.

Lots of loaders like the "one bullet/one gun" approach. Not a bad thing to do. I like 2 in many of my rifles, and sometimes 3.

Re: 160 accubond vs 168 berger

That is kind of what i am thinking. In looking at the ballistic tables with both bullets and with all else equal at 700 yards only talking about a 1-3" difference depending on altitude and temp. witht the berger slightly flatter. But at 500 and closer not much difference at all..

Re: 160 accubond vs 168 berger

I would go with the one designed as a quality hunting bullet. The 160 accubond is a quality hunting bullet. Like I said in the other thread. I know many people who tried bergers for hunting. Some love them and some hate them. The ones who do not use them anymore had lost animals or got their animal but bullet performance was very erratic. To me the best all around bullet would be the 160 accubond. I have always heard excellent performance results with that particular bullet. At the ranges you shoot the slight bc difference is negligible, but the threat of a lost animal is important.

What load are you using with thw 168VLD's? I shoot 84.5 of retumbo. It's about 3/4moa. Still trying to play with it and tighten it up some.
