Man! Looks like the Savage factory needs a new jig! Or at least you had better hope it's the action and the barrel threads aren't cut that crooked

I like to use the right sized dowel wrapped in sandpaper especially for the fore end. People use to say so a paper would slide through between the barrel and stock but that isn't really enough. I would go for 1/16" on the fore end. You can go tighter as you get closer to the barrel lug but just make sure it doesn't touch anywhere under recoil......Rich
It isn't, I am kind of disappointed at this $800 gun. The Axis I saw in store has barrel nice floated. I wonder if I can send the gun back to Savage, let them fix it for me.

Re: 111 Long Range Hunter in 300 Win Mag

I took delivery of the LRH after 10 day waiting period. After careful inspection, only the forend the stock is touching the barrel. So I took the stock off, adjusted the trigger to 2.5lb (lowest according to my layman trigger gauge), and used a knife to remove some material from the forend. Took about 15 minutes to do the whole thing.

Some of you mentioned that the front scope mounting hole can be too shallow. My rail is still on the way, will find out. If it is indeed too shallow, I suppose the fix is to grind the screw to shorter length?

Yes, I took .020" off with a file.

Sending mine back to savage the holes are over .050" out of alignment with the barrel. Will see what they will do.
