1-9 twist 6.5 ??

I have had good luck with 130gn with 1-9, and 130, 140's with 1-8.5. Do you think I could get by with 140 Bergers @ 3000fps and 4000ft altitude with 1-9 ?? Thanks for any input. Weezer

I don't know the length of those bullets. I use SMKs that measure 1.355" and I know they work well with 1:8" twist.

You can run the numbers on JBM's website and see what they say. But, my guess is that you'll be ok.

What Catridge? If you were shooting them fast enough, then yes, you would be fine. If you were shooting them less than 2900ish I would say it would be a gamble. Just my .02

Thanks for the info. The caliber I had in mind is a 6.5xRoberts AI or 6.5-06 A Sq. AI as I have reamers for them. Weezer

I shoot 140 VLDs at 3441fps from my 6.5mm Voodoo with 1-9twist at 300ft altitude with zero problems, very good performance actually!

What do you lose by going with 1:8? You can shoot both 130 and 140 grain bullets with that rate of twist. Whereas it seems questionable to go 1:9 with the 140.

I have a 6.5x55 with a 1:9 twist. It shoots Berger 140 VLD's very accurately whether they are loaded fast or slow. I have not chronoed my loads, but the Berger 140's have shot well even with starting loads (42.2g H4831), less than 1000ft. above sea level, @ 45*F.

I say give the Bergers a shot.
