06 300 rum sfII Question for load

Just got my new 300 rum SF have put 93 rounds threw it already with 168 vlds and some 210vlds
My Question to you fine gentlemen is, is 99Gr of Retumbo, 168gr VLD bergers going to hurt the average Barrel life of this gun it chronos right at 3300? by the way two coyotes have hated this gun.Thanks for help! so far I love this gun
shoots pretty good for me I did a 6 shot 5 3/4" group at 518YRDS not the greatist but ok by me.

I do not know what the average life of a 300 RUM would be,but burning that amount of powder it will be considerably less than a 300 win.I am pushing 180 grainers near 3400 fps so your 168's at 3300 isn't out of the ordinary

In my 300 RUM I use H1000. It gave me a 3/4" 3 shot group at 200 yds going 3225 fps and I shot the center bulls eye with it at 600 yds. Top FPS was 3225 using noslers 180 gr. partition
bullets.

I'm with Jwp475 on this one. I shoot a 300 win mag with a 28 1/2" barrel and I am getting 3390 fps with 178gn bullets.
If I were you I would stick to heavier bullets in the 300 RUM. The extra powder is not doing you any benefit with the lighter bullets.

6mm, are you saying I can drop the grains of powder
and stay the same velocity? I like the speed for wind drift reasons I know the the heavy bulletts are better for drift, but I can only get the 210 Gr bergers to fly about 2950fps with
H1000, and the ballistics for the 168grainers at long range

Try the 210s w/some Retumbo. In my opinion H1000 is a little fast for this bullet. I'm getting 3200 fps out of a 30" Lilja w/93.5 gr. This may be too hot for your rifle but, I would think 3000 to 3100 fps would be doable in a 26" tube.

I've been down the same road your taking. Save yourself some some time and money and go straight to the 200 + gr bullets.

Don't pay any attention to drop. Look @ wind drift and retained velocity and energy when choosing your bullet. You will be amazed @ the yardage that slow poke 210gr will pass the speedy 168 gr!! You'll also get a much lower ES and SD w/the heavier bullets. That is VERY important for long range work. You can dope the wind but you can't dope for a high ES.

Thanks for that info Bill I will try that toninght I think i may have already shot retumbo need to ck the records i have spent alot of coin on just what you said including the new gun, scope 8.5x25 leupold, and range finder let alone the componants i have went through to this point.
