why my Weaver tactical was so dadburn cheap

I purchased a weaver tactical 4.5-14x42 w/1/8" clicks a couple of years ago. I wanted another scope but the supplier didn't have it so I asked about a Weaver Tactical. They had a traded one for a decent price.

I have been using the mil dots for aiming and have been quite successful. I've had it on my carry gun so did no clicking.

Today while testing a new stock installation during sight in I paid particular attention to clicks as I have been confused by this scope in the past.

Shooting 3 sighters revealed that the windage adjustments are precisely 0.125" per click while the elevation adjustment is somewhere around 0.2"

She has held zero for two seasons. There is no longer customer support for this scope so I may, one day, have to tear into it myself.

Now I know why I had some confused moments

If the bullets I'm experimenting with live up to their expectations a 300 yd zero will put 1000 yds right at 5 mils. Which will suit me just fine.

I'd moan and groan about this but the optics of the Weaver Tactical are exceptional and the reticle is in the FFP so she's good at all powers.

Roy, i'm a little confused. you seem to be singing nothing but praise about this scope yet the title leads one to believe it's a lemon. is it the fact that your new bullets with the 2.6 BC are too good for the scope?

We talked about these scopes several times before you got one. I fully recommend them for anyone that wants to use the reticle for hold over but would not for dialing up.

That said, its always wise to check your click values with any scope just to "Make sure" they are what they should be. If they give you 0.2" per click, and are consistant, no big deal, just record this and use this new value.

Optical quality is very good as you mentioned, its to bad they take the best scope from their line and discontinue it. For a value priced long range scope these were nearly impossible to beat for conventional chambered rifles.

I'm a happy camper w/the Weaver.

W/a 265gr Silver Tip RBBT @ 2900 and way sub MOA and a bc about the same or better than the 300gr SMK a 300 yd zero puts POI just under 5 Mils @ 1K.

That will be pretty good for a carry rifle when the opportunity arises for a long shot.

I have a quality, clicking wise, scope coming for the 270 AM for LR yotes, cats, bear, deer and of course the inevitable WOOF!

I figured out my vertical click value. Its right at 0.25 MOA.

I'll do additional verification at long ranges one of these first days.

1/4 MOA up/down - 1/8 MOA side ways. Hmmmmm, must have been the tail end of the production run and they were scrounging for parts.

I have one of the last Ithaca 51s to come out of NY. The metal is all related but the front and back wood finished completely different. But she still shoots.
