What variable power to use for mil-dot ranging

New Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14-40. Have read all the inclosed paperwork. Can't find what power to range at. Assume it's 10x but you know what they say about assuming.

Put a yardstick at 100 yds and adjust the power ring until the stick perfectly fills the space between the posts (assuming it's the standard 10 mils). That'll tell you at what power it's calibrated.

Jon,

Thanks for the advice. I'll check it. I DID find the power. On the power ring, at the 12x, their is a "mil" marking.

Always a good idea to check just to make sure. I did the above with my IOR and found when I looked at the power ring it was perfectly lined up with the "mil mark" (at 10X in its case).

It's also good to know your substentions at max power....
