Re: Ultra highend optics: Schmidt Bender vs. others and some perspective
I usually run amok of the Leupold faithful when I make statements like, In 15 years of IBS,NBRSA BR group shooting and 30000+ rounds I've never had a Leupold not quit on me.At one time I had one on the gun,one in my shooting box,and one, somewhere in route to Oregon.Pretty much all shooting season long.Unless your willing to do Tucker conversions or even more outlandish modifications, then more than likley your going to have problems. But thats just my opinion, based on my experience. To be fair to Leupold everything else I ran on HV and LV rifles quit as well.
About this time some of the faithful will chime in and ask me WHY,if S&B is so great,WHY don't I use one my BR rifles? And the answer is that I would if they had a model with enough power to suit me.But they dont.
My first S&B from 86 is a 1.5-6x42 steel tube.Im not going to sit here and say that I have anywhere near the number of rounds on that scope as some of my BR rifles. But for quite a number of years now I have beat that thing unmercifully.
At 20 years of age optically it has just a touch of yellow. And more than a few battle scars. And it still works perfectly.I would take it hunting today with complete confidence.I think I got my moneys worth.
Only accurate rifles are interesting.
