Try the Bog Pod

The Bog Pod may be what you are looking for. I put a manfrotto ball head on mine and had a lightweight tripod that works as well as most photo tripods, and doubles as a great shooting rest. Check out www.boggear.com.

Re: Suggestions for a lightweight, stable tripod?

check out Amvona - Home . You can search for your tripod based on extended height (i.e. whether you will be standing or sitting) your height if standing, desired weight of tripod and then add your desired head (pistol grip, roller, etc.). I have built several on this site for the back of the truck to backpacking. Great quality and all of them typically come out for under $100.

Re: Suggestions for a lightweight, stable tripod?

Check out a company called Precision Rifle Solutions. I bought thier tripod with cradle and range finder mount. $164 delivered to my door.

Very good to deal with and outstanding product. Very adjustable and holds my heavy rifle no problems. Light weight and fits easily in my Eberlestock pack.
