spotting scope vs camera

what do you guys think of this idea? a freind and i where talking about spotting scopes the other night and he said he had been looking in to a camera that has 50x zoom. and was woundering what i thought about useing a camera for spotting big game at long range instead of a spotting scope. he said that the camera he is looking at is 50x zoom 8.0 maga pixel
and only $500. i didnt know what to tell him. what do you guy think?

Cameras are for taking pics.

Spotting scopes are for spotting.

Take the camera out and try it in the field. I bet you'll soon see what I mean.

Eye fatigue would be extreme, me thinks.
