Which scope and reticle ????????

I just bought a 300rum & was looking to get a scope for it. I make consistent 500 yd shots with some of my other rifles and would like to set the 300rum up to try some longer shooting. I think I would like some type of BDC reticle that can get futher out. Can the mil-dots be used for BDC ? Seems alot of you perfer nightforce scopes, I perfer not to put $1500. in one if I can get something that will work for less. I am new to this long range shooting, but I would realy like to learn from you guys. If you can give me any help I sure would appreciate it. It's better to spend $1500 fron the start rather than spend $500 and then turn around and spend the $1500 anyway!!

Re: Which scope and reticle ????????

Rack, Ol Bill speaks the truth. May as well save and pony up for a N/F. I just got my 15x50 R1 from Bill a couple of weeks ago and have not had a chance to mount her up yet.

IMO you cannot go wrong with the 15x50 R2. It's a whole lot easier to get on the 2 moa bars for distance than the 1 moa in low light conditions for me anyhow. If you shoot the 185VLD at 3400fps you get a drop like this:

Sight in at 100yds
Bar#1 300yds
Bar#2 400yds
Bar#3 500yds
Bar#4 600yds
Bar#5 676yds
Bar#6 750yds
Bar#7 828yds
Bar#8 900yds
Bar#9 960yds
Bar#10 1020yds
Bar#11 ?
Bar#12 ?
Bar#13 ?
Bar#14 ?
Bar#15 ?

You get 5 more bars in the 15x vs the 22x. Each bar on the R2 is 2moa and the cross bar in 5moa.

Later Tim

Re: Which scope and reticle ????????

Greetings, take a look at Leupold or Schmidt & Bender rifle scopes with Advanced Reticle Technology. For a long range hunter this reticle technology is hard to beat, enjoy two range finders and 30 precise aiming points based in MOA. The reticle is non- caliber specific, uncluttered and very easy to use. The 6.5x20 Mk 4 would be a great choice and is within your price range.

Good luck!!!!
