Scope for M1A??

I am posting this question for a friend. He is looking for a scope for his M1A. He is planning on shooting out to 500-600 yds. I don't know what rings are available for that gun. I know he was looking at the Leupold LPS 3.5 X 14 with the 30mm tube. What do you all think?

If I were him I would go for the leupold mark4 10x or leupold varix111 3.5-10x 40mm tactical.
