Scope for 338 lapua AI

Advice needed please, or more of a second opinion. My custom 338 Lapua AI is almost done, and I am stuck deciding on a scope. Nightforce 5x22x56 gives me 100 MOA, 8x32 = 65MOA, or if money was to fall out of a tree, a Smchidt and Bender 12x50. What would you guys do?. Do I need all that MOA.

My buddy has a Nightforce scope on his custom .338 Lapua. Not sure what model but he really likes it.

Re: Scope for 338 lapua AI

I have a 338 Lapua Improved. I use a USO 5-25X SN3 (but own a 8-32X NSX that I use for F-Class). Shooting in the desert (for me) is never a question of "need" more magnification. The quest when shooting beyond 1,900 yards is elevation (especially in the winter). I use every scrap of elevation that I have, and still hold over a touch when shooting at 1,900 yards and beyond.

I vote for 100MOA elevation and 22X magnification.

I have a Premier/Leupold 14.5x35 on mine and really like it ,dont know if they are still available.
The 100 MOA of the Nightforce 5x22x56 is what I would want plus a base with even more MOA.
I have a 50 and a 70 MOA base that will take the 338 Lapua AI out to subsonic velocities.

Thank you Jeffvn and UncleB, that was thinking behind the question. The gun will be used to its full potential. I know the 65MOA that the 8x32 would be more than usefull, its just after the 1900, 2000 yard mark, that I was concerned about.

Re: Scope for 338 lapua AI

I was spotting for a friend that was shooting his standard 338LM at a little over 2200 yds and he ran out of elevation with his 5.5-22x50 NSX and a 25 MOA base. He ended up holding over another 20+ MOA to get close.
Can't remember whether he was shooting 250 or 300 grain bullets.
