Scope for 300 RUM

I'm getting ready to purchase a scope for my Christensen Arms 300 RUM and would like to get opinions on which to get.

I've narrowed it down to two scopes:
Burris XTR 4-16x50 or the XTR 6-24x50.

Also, which reticle would you suggest? The 4-16 comes with either an illuminated mil dot or a ballistic mil dot reticle. The 6-24 is offered in ballistic mil dot.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have owned a Burris for years. It is a nice scope. I also have 2 Zeiss conquests and a NF. NO dought the NF is the best. I would look at the Zeiss Conquest over the burris. The Zeiss has a 1" tube, but it is a very clear scope. There is plenty of ways to mount the Zeiss to get all the elavation you want for the 300 RUM.If you check the prices at cameralandny, the Zeiss will even save you some MONEY. I would go with the 6X20X50 with target knobs, Good Luck, Bill Maylor..

I have a Christensenarms barreled rifle to in 30-378. I have a 3x12x50 Mil lp, my bases and ring are from Neer MFG company in Canada. I dont know what your budget is,but I think the best bang for the $$ is A schmidt and bender Classic 3x12x50 you can send it to the company and get a elevation turrut put on for about $200. The whole deal should cost about 2,000. You If you want something a little more fancy you can do the same with a Zenith. I beleive you don't need have magnifing lenes when you have good quality glass for hunting. These scope have first focal plane reticles that are accuracy garunteed at any magification. Plus when it gets low light and you can't see your crosshair, just turn the power up a little if you ont have a little reticle. If you want mildots the have the percision hunter model and the pm sereis.

I went from a Lup VX3 2.5-10 to a NF 5-22X56. so I could see what I was shootin at over there. The 300RUM will reach out and scrach someone elses nose. This is a hard choice. Get the best glass you can afford!! Bill Maylor..

Go with the 6-24x50. It will do everything the 4-16 will do and more.

I would go for the 4-16 probably has a little more elevation and windage and on the hot days when mirage is a factor 16x is where you will be at anyway,i struggle with a NF @22x on a day when there is a lot of mirage just my 2 cents.Good luck with your purchase.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I went ahead and ordered the 6x24x50 with .25 MOA turrets today. I'm one of these lucky guys who bought $20 worth of 4-H raffle tickets and walked away with this rifle and a 60% off coupon on a Burris scope.

    Bases and rings?
Planning on purchasing the Burris XTR weaver style bases and Signature Zee rings. Any complaints on these or other recommendations? Married = tight budget
