Realistic range to shoot elk w/ 7mm WSM.

What is the furthest realistic range that a 7mm WSM 180gr.vld type of bullet can cleanly kill an elk? thanks,

You will most likely be the limiting factor in the maximum distance you could take an Elk with that setup. You would have more than enough energy at 1200yds.

The distance that you can consistently place your shot in the kill zone IMHO.

i would have not question with my set up to take an elk out to over 1000 max 1200. i have shot deer out to 900 with unbeleivable penitration. i know is not a deer but if i put the bullet in the right spot it will kill it.

what is your set up?

It's nice to have 1200 ft/lbs for vital shots on Elk, if you find an online ballistic calculator that will give you info beyond 1000yds you'll know exactly how far you'l maintain that much energy. When I said he would most likely be the limiting factor with that setup, I meant that a 7wsm with 180gr bergers could take elk from an awful long ways, the shooter's ability is often the limiting factor. I have 2 308's, a 243, 270, 7mm, and I'm currently working on a 7wsm and 338 Lapua mag. I haven't hunted Elk for a few years.
