Question abt Leupold Boone & Crocket 3.5-10: Second scale on power ring

On my VX-3 Boone & Crocket 3.5-10 there is another scale on the power adjustment ring other then the power scale. It is on the rear side of the ring and it says YDS/M and has a scale of 2-6. Can anybody tell me what this scale is for?

Thanks for your help.

That system was borrowed from the traditional Vari-X III and VX-III range estimating system (RES). If u bracket a std. deer (16" back to brisket) between the center X-hair and plex post tip and adjust the power ring till it occupies 100% of the bracketing gap u then read off the distance in yards (or meters, i guess), and that's supposed to be your range to the 16" tgt. (2-6 = 200 - 600 Y/M).

...but there are better rangefinding systems that can be used with plex reticles.

So for the B and C reticle you bracket between the upper picket and horizontal cross hair, or first bar below the cross hair?

The upper picket (upper plex post tip) and X-hair.

Re: Question abt Leupold Boone & Crocket 3.5-10: Second scale on power ring

...but if u're going to try and use the reticle to rangefind u may as well use it as effectively as possible. What i use is a modification of the mil-ranging formula that's described here--
www.ottllc.com/specialtypistols/sp20.pdf under Item C) Reticle Rangefinding

With the B&C reticle just bracket the 16" tgt. between X and 3rd stadia down (6.55 inch per hundred yds.) @ the optics highest power. If he fits perfectly he's 245 yds. away ( 16 x 100 / 6.55 / 1.0 = 244). If he fills 90% (.9) he's 270 yds. away (16 x 100 / 6.55 / 0.9 = 271). Here's the rest of the ranging chart for the 16" tgt.--

.8 = 305
stadia # 2 = 320
.7 = 350
.6 = 407
.5 = 490
