Re: Nightforce or Leupold

NXS Nightforce is a tremdous scope for the price. I saw an NXS at the shot show last year that had an AK-47 bullet hole completely through the tube just in front of the power ring and the scope still functioned, the soldger taped over the holes and used the scope for 3 more days.
I own 5 of the NXS scopes and love them

NXS night force. In my opinion they cant be beat. I have been in they're plant and they showed me some tests that shows how tough they are, with excellent glass I dont think you can beat them. We built the house and personall shop for the vice president and he is a good guy. Met the pres that lives in australlia and seems like a nice guy.

Re: Nightforce or Leupold

Blygy,

I can recommend IOR Valdada scopes. They have optical qualities as highly or better regarded than Nightforce. I own 2. Both relatively low powered: a 10x side parallax tactical, and a 4-14 50mm illuminated MP-8 reticle. The image quality is very high, and the repeatability of turret movements is even better.

I also own Leupold high-end glass. I think limiting your choice to the VX-L line does you a disservice. The side-focus 30mm tube 8-25xLRT is a great performer, but the 6.5-20LRT 50mm might be the best all-around scope you can buy; for the money, at well under $1000.

I have several older Mk4 scopes. They may not have the latest optical coating, but they are a specialist's tool and not designed to read the phone book at 200 yds. Arguably, that is why you own a spotting scope. If you are buying tools that try to "do it all", you wind up with gear that cannot excel in the area it really matters.

There are lots of great scopes out there, really great ones in your price range. Shop around, you can likely find a Zeiss Victory or a used Schmidt & Bender.

Do you test your optics, or use them? What kind of mounting system will you be employing? Without the best mounting system all the extra money you spend on a hot scope goes down the drain if your zero has shifted; and w/o a "good" mount system, it will.
