Re: nightforce ?

24mm is pretty small for good light transmission at 10x, ya think? This sounds nice, but personally, I'd still rather have a 45-50mm.

Re: nightforce ?

I looked through both new hunting scopes, particularly the 2.5-10 a bunch. Have some bear hunts coming up that really need to be done with the 2.5-10! The difference is there is almost no front bell on the 2.5-10 and straight tube on the 1.5-6. The tubes are 30mm so the objective is only 35 or so, damned if I can find my catalog must have loaned it out already. They are sweet, amazingly bright guess you do not need a big honking front-end to let in lots of light

Re: nightforce ?

Ian, the guy I spoke to at NF said the 2.5x10 had a 30mm tube and 24mm bell? It doesn't make sense to me. But your saying the bell is 35mm?

How could the bell be 11mm smaller than the tube?

Re: nightforce ?

John,
No offence, but that is just not likely, sounds like he was about as good at math as I am. I did look through and handle the 2.5-10 and it is a very nice scope, but the objective is not smaller than the main tube. Wonder if he meant 42mm. If I can find my damn catalog I could clear this up but it has disappeared.

Maybe he has a secret scope being planned that sucks light into it like a sponge

Re: nightforce ?

Ian, It would be the ugliest scope in the world!

I asked him 15 times and he kept saying "it's low profile"

Sounds more like "no profile"

Re: nightforce ?

Greetings,
From the Nightforce catalog:

1-4x24 24mm Objective, 30mm Tube, 33mm Ocular lense, 3.54" Eye Relief, 100 MOA Elevation and Windage, .250 MOA Clicks, 8.7" OAL, 16.5 oz.

2.5-10x24 24mm Objective, 30mm Tube, 33mm Ocular lense, 3.74" Eye Relief, 100 MOA Elevation and Windage, .250 MOA Clicks, 9.9 OAL, 17oz.

Edited to add: There is no objective bell, i.e. just a straight tube to the end of the scope. The numbers make sense as the tube is 30mm and the lenses is 24mm, which would leave 3mm at the top and 3mm at the bottom to allow for the tube thickness and any other mounting component to interface between the lense and the tube.
