New Sightron Recticles

If I might toss in a comment,

I'm the 3rd owner of a Sightron SII that came on a Sendero I purchased a year ago. The adjusting ring for parallax came loose, and I contacted Sightron. They fixed it, cleaned up the scope and returned it - for free. Can't beat that for customer service. I was so impressed that I bought another one (new) in December.

I've always been a Leupold and especially Nightforce fan. I have a few of each, but I find myself looking into these SIII's with the MOA reticle for a backup scope.

Those of you that love them, what makes you feel that way? Do you feel they are a heavy duty scope? Have you ever needed warranty work?

I've moved into a couple of SIII's. I think they compare optically to the NXS....and the turrets seem to be very positive..if not slightly less than the NF. I've got a 8-32x and a 10-50X. For the money...I think they are a strong value.

I agree, sightrons will track all day long with the best of them. Their older turrets are a little soft for most but come covered. I understand that the new uncovered turrets have a stiffer feel. Glass is on par with any high end optic. New recticles should help close the gap with some spender scopes. My first SIII fogged internally, sent it in and was repaired/sealed/re-filled w/nitrogen with no questions asked. Out my door and back through it in less than 2 weeks.



I liked them better before they move their price points higher. But still a great bang for the buck IMHO. My last SIII I bought was the 6-24 LRMD (current build) from natchez for $679.00... that is long gone!

Please correct if I am mistaken:

Looking at the schematic of new MOA reticle "H" is the center dot and at lowest power at 100 yds the dot is 1 inch in diameter and at maximum power the center dot is 1/4" in diameter? Does this mean that lowest power at 1,000 yards the center dot "H" is 10 inches in diameter? Seems awfully large to me. And if you shoot F-class aren't the targets measured in mils and aren't the distances in meters? Would it be easier to do your calculations in mils instead of having to convert moa to mils? Also when shooting at high power the reticle is harder to hold steady so if you need the lower power the dot "H" may cover up your target.

Here's how I read it, the spacing between lines is 2" at 24X, 8" at 6X.
The dot in center is .25 inch at 24X and therefore 1" at 6X.

Looks to be a standard 2nd FP design, nothing unordinary.
1/4 moa click value.

Only questionable thing I see is the thickness of the vertical wire. Must be a misprint. More than likely a .3" on 24X and 1.2" on 6X. I really hope it's not a .7 on 24X, because that means it would cover 5" at 700 yds........too coarse for using holdover.

I don't think you're mistaken, but I have no intention of using this scope on 6X. If I am using it, it will be on 12X or higher.

I have no idea about F-Class targets, only real life/live targets. This reticle appears to be kinda similar to the Leupold TMR with it's 1/2 mil spacing. On 12X, the center dot would cover 5" at 1000 yds (theoretically).

Good catch! I sent Sightron an e-mail and pointed out this error. Hopefully they'll correct dimension D on their web site so we'll know the true width of this reticle.
