I could use some assistance picking a base and rings for my newest toy.
I'll be shooting it up to 1,000 yards.
I'm going to be mounting a Millett Buck Gold BK30736 6-25x56mm on it.
Two things I need: decide on base/ring setup and get correct size rings (I'd like as little space as possible between the bottom of the bell and the barrel).
In a couple of days I'll be taking delivery of a Savage Model 11 Long Range Hunter in .308 viewable here: Savage Arms Firearms > 11 Long Range Hunter
It has the rounded rear receiver. I've found Midway's page for bases that fit this here: MidwayUSA - Just About Everything in Hunting & Shooting Sport Optics
Here's what I'd like to accomplish, but not sure of best/most cost effective way to achieve it. I'd like to have 20moa built into the base and I was thinking I'd prefer the flexibility of a picatinny rail. I'd like both the base and rings to be steel and not aluminum.
Unfortunately, it seems that all the 20moa picatinny rails that seem reasonably priced are made of aluminum and the steel ones seem over a hundred bucks - which seem asinine to me just for a base.
Anyhow, if it were your rig, and your budget for the base and rings was $100 or $125 how would you go?
Thanks a bunch for your input.
