If you have your knobs zeroed you will be starting at 0. I have never counted clicks, I count moa. It's much faster. If you need to go up 9 moa, just dial up to the 9. If you need 9.25 moa just dial up to the 9 plus 1 more clicks. Much easier to do it this way, to my way of thinking, than counting 37 individual clicks.
I have always found it easier to count to 10 than to count to 40 when the end result is the same. I end up with the turret on 10.
Ditto what ss7mm says, sight in, then loosen the set screws and put the knobs on zero, then use the numbers for MOA, a tip, always go past where you want to set it by a couple clicks, then turn back, same when you return to ")" on the knob, go past a bit and turn it back, it helps all my scopes be more consistant.
