Leupold Retrofit Question - BDC

Everyone please pardon my ignorance on this as Im sure there is a very obvious reason but I cant figure it out.

I contacted Leupold to ask about getting my VX3 retro fitted to have a CDS type system installed. Apparently I would need to send the scope in and they would need to install a BDC dial which is $90 and then create the CDS cap which is $60.

It appears that the Kenton Industries TTC knob can be installed by anybody.

What exactly is the BDC dial???? Mike

Bullet Drop Compensating turrets are well worth the money for my nickels worth. You don't have to get a dial specific to a bullet of choice . It will come with a standard minute of angle and you would have to refer to your drop charts and make the changes.
