The M1s don't have a locking turret feature. IMO you could accidently bump the knob pulling it out of scabbard/backpack/etc....but it would take some effort. The friction to turn the knob is set so it takes a deliberate effort to make them move. It's pretty stiff on both the VX-III I had Luepy custom shop put knobs, and the Mark 4 I have.
If you're concerned with them moving....I would just get a Mark 4 or a Luepy that had the M1 installed in my hands, and see for yourself. That's the only way you'll really know if it's good enough for you. Some folks it isn't, and they want a dust cover. It works fine for me.
