Leica Geovids - Which Would You Choose?
I sent in my leica 10 x 42 geovids back a few weeks ago to get looked at. I had been noticing that I just could not get good range readings with it. Well, one of the prisms is broken from "impact damage", so it had to be sent to Germany for repairs. Unfortunately for me Germany apparently likes to take the month of August off (we need to try something like that here, only during hunting season!). The leica reps that I have been dealing with have been exceptional - their responses have been outstanding thus far. When I emailed them today to get an update (bear season is just around the corner and I need some glass) - they could not give me a definitive repair date so they offered to replace my geovids at the repair cost. They stated that historically repair costs of this nature are $400 to $500 so they would ship me new geovids for $400 if I wish.
Now the kicker - and the question. They do not have any 10 x 42's in stock. If you had a choice would you opt for a different size, say the 8 x 56, 8 x 42, or perhaps the new 15 x 56? Or did I get the best of the geovids and need to just wait until they get some new 10 x 42's in? Any thoughts would be most appreciated. I'll be calling tomorrow to discuss with the leica rep. Thanks guys. -- Don
