IOR Valdada -vs- Nightforce NXS

Hey All,

I know this was an older thread, NXS vs New IOR however, I wanted to revisit this. It is my understand IOR has made improvements to their internals. Is anyone currently running this scope? 6-24x50 35mm SFP TACTICAL SCOPE SF MP-8 XTREME-X1 MOA ILLUM. RETICLE - Tactical Scopes - Scopes. I have spoke with a few people regarding the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 MOAR with nothing but good feed back. This scope would be used for my 6.5x284. I had my mind set on the nightforce, but now I found this. They both have there pros and cons, but curious what others thought! Thanks

I haven't owned that exact scope but i've had a few IORs and NFs. i'll give the glass quality edge to the IOR. i like the fat turret on the IOR better than the NF. NF is lighter in comparable magnifications. (IORs tend to have some larger tubes). i like the MP-8 reticle better than most of the NF reticle options. (haven't spent much time behind the new MOAR)

the one problem that i had with my IOR 3-18 was eye relief. and the NF was easier to get behind. again the IOR you're looking at may be significantly differetn than the ones i've owned.

I guess looking at the two of these scopes the features are similar. The price is about the same. The IOR weighs more, but not by much. The main tube on the IOR is bigger, but is there any real benefit from this. The IOR glass is said to have the advantage over the Nightforce.

It would greatly depend on which IOR scope you are comparing to the NF.

I like my IOR 4-14x 50 Tact much better than the NF 3.5-15. Particularly in low light conditions it's the single best piece of glass I've ever owned or shot. I've used it on coyotes on a full moon night without any added illumination out to 500yds on wheat fields.

I like my IOR 6-24x50 35mm tube better than the NF 5.5-22x56 I compared it to. Again outstanding in low light, and much better in extremely bright conditions than either the NF or Mark 4's and VXII Leupold's I own.

I'm not a man of wealth by any means and my next scope will be the new 4-28x56mm 40mm tube IOR .

I haven't shot the latter yet but I have had an opportunity to play with one a bit in both bright and low light and it's phenomenal. The incredible 85 MOA range of adjustment makes it a tremendous Long or extreme long range optic as do the 1/4MOA click values.

High end scopes are like high end vehicles or rifles though and a lot of it just boils down to personal preference. Some of it too depends on the individual users eyes and light sensitivity.

I have a problelm in extremely bright light but I have exceptional night vision and always have had this as an issue. In both extremes I really love the IOR's better than anything else I have owned or tried.

My 6-24 is an older model which came with the regular target turrets/caps.

I have the tactical turrets on the 4-14 however. They are plenty large enough to get a hold of even in wet/cold conditions and the numbers on the power dial are plenty big enough for me to read. I have in fact no problem reading either without my reading glasses which I do need to read most printed material that is hand held. Fortunately my distance vision has not suffered the same decay with age.
