I seek opinions on nightforce options

My wife is finally on board with me purchasing a Nightforce scope. I am wanting the NXS5.5-22-50 with the MOAR reticle. I will be mounting it on a 7mmRUM Sendero SFII.

I am having trouble trying to decide between a 50mm objective, and a 56mm objective. Also trying to decide which reticle would be ideal for me. I will be using it to shoot at 1000yds targets, so that one day I can get into the long range hunting which I am so interested in right now.

Another question I have is: I will put a 20 MOA base rail on, and want to know what height of rings I should order. Medium for the 50mm objective, and tall for the 56mm objective?

Thanks for your comments.

Re: I seek opinions on nightforce options

I am also looking at this scope in a 50 mm. I am trying to keep the scope as low to the receiver as possible. I went with a 20 moa badger base and badger medium rings at .885. What barrel are you using on your build?

According to Nightforce, if using a 20 moa bases and medium rings .885, a 56mm will fit on a Sendero/light varmint contour, but will not fit my Palma contour. .

My rifle is just a factory Sendero at this point. I appreciate the info on the base and rings. Where do you order the badger base and rings from?

Re: I seek opinions on nightforce options

I have this nightforce scope and I have been happy with it, however, I recently built a 300 rum custom and I shelled out for a schmidt and bender 3-20 x 50 with a 34mm tube and one thing for sure that I can say is the bigger tube is definitely very very nice for target aquisition, night and day from the nightforce. If spending that kind of money it may be worth while to look into some different scopes that offer the 34mm tube. I could've got the 56mm objective but in speaking with Mike at CS Tactical he thought that the 50 with a 34 tube would work out great and he was right. Vortex offers very nice glass, comparable if not better than nightforce, also us optics and premiere have really good reviews but I've never looked through them. As for the reticle, if you go with the nightforce check out the np-r1, I got the np-r2 but kinda wish I would got the r1 because the more reference you have on your reticle the quicker and more accurate you'll be able to make a follow up shot using holds, especially if you're hunting. For my S&B I ordered it with the H-37 Horus reticle in the first focal plane and I love it, but I know that ones not really for everyone. Good luck my friend i'm sure whichever direction you go with this you'll do good.

I ordered direct from badger! Or try midway or Euro Optic!

Re: I seek opinions on nightforce options

C.O. shooter, you have been very helpful thanks. I googled the badger products, and found them. I will go that route. I can't beieve how expensive the base and rings are. Wow. I will stick with the 50mm objective as well, because I know I will be rebarreling this rifle soon, and would hate to have to buy different components based on the price.(due to a thicker target barrel)

lrdevil, you have an awesome scope there with the S&B. It took me two years to convince my wife to let me spend a couple thousand on a scope. It would take me a while longer to convince her to let me spend another 1200. If she would let me I would do it right now. As for the Vortex scopes, aren't they a knock off of sworovski (spelling)? I checked one out a couple of years ago, and compared it to a VXII Leoupold. I thought the Leoupold had much better glass. The scopes were both hunting scopes of the same quality. I will stick with Night force because I have wanted one for so long now, I would hate to have regrets later. I appreciate the comments, and hope you enjoy your S&B, you lucky devil.

Re: I seek opinions on nightforce options

How important is the zero stop option? I would think it would be quite handy.
