\"Friction Paper\" for scope rings

I got some cheap scope rings (which I will be epoxying a bubble level to) and they came with Friction Paper [ QUOTE ][*]Use a solvent to remove oil.[*]Peel off backing and place adhesive-coated side to inside of ring in bottom half.

[/ QUOTE ]

Any comments on this? Why would you only place it on the bottom half of the ring? If it increased friction - seems like a good way to prevent scratches (ring marks) on your scope (Assuming you put a strip all the way around the ring.)

Re: \"Friction Paper\" for scope rings

More then likely its because using a top and bottom strip of tape may restrict the diameter of the ring to the point where it may be much easier to over compress the scope body.

As light as the level is you suspect you would be fine with no friction tape at all.

Good Shooting!!

plain tablet paper works just as well

the adhesive tends to get nasty under pressure.
