Fov question

I mounted my friends Leopold Mark 4 6.5-20-50mm and noticed the fov seemed much smaller that my 1in conquest. I'm soon to buy a leopold or night force to hunt whitetail out to 500 yds and shoot paper and steel out to 600+. I really like the larger fov for hunting so what are my options? I've been an avid hunter and shooter for 25yrs. But I'm new to the LR game, I need some help, thanks.

Re: Fov question

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, mostly just hollering back so you know someone heard you. 1) You're a whitetail hunter interested in a scope with good field of view. 2) You've looked through a Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20 50mm 3) It didn't seem to compare favorably with a Conquest 1 inch ?. 4) Which-Leupold or Nightforce has better Field of View?
Best suggestion is to browse both their sites, both list specifications for their scopes inclusive of field of view. Generally as magnification goes up FOV goes down. It's kind of personal preference, and how you anticipate applying it, the spec sheets should help you decide what the best balance is for you.

Re: Fov question

The specs for both leopold and NF show about 4.5 ft at 100 yds and the Zeiss Conquest is 8.5 ft. Why is there such a difference?

Re: Fov question

Which models are you looking at, and at what magnification? I don't know the variables in calculating field of view, but typically field of view goes down as magnification goes up. I just looked at the Leupold site, and to look at just a couple: the 2-7x has 17.8'-42.5' of FOV depending on magnification, the 1-4x has 28.5'-75' FOV, the 40x has 2.7'. The Zeiss 3-12 Conquest has 9.9'-27.6'. Lots of possibilities to choose from.
