All of the ones I've tried do that. My Leica 1200 does it also. But early morning or late evening, in the shade, or when the sun is covered by a cloud she ranges right out to published range + 17 yards max- dammit;)
This is with a fresh battery and no steady rest.
I'm satisfied as I can't shot out to the distance the range finder will range........yet.;)
I also have a Leica 1200, and have come to the same conclusions.
Nikon advertised that as 800 yds, but will have to be in the right light, on a reflective target that is big enough for your laser to bounce off of.
At present my Leica surpasses my effective range. When I surpass the effective range of the Leica it will be time for me to trade up. Perhaps you have surpassed the effective range of your rangefinder and it is time for you to trade up. Christmas is coming you know;)
