Considering a Sightron SIII 16x42 modified mil dot

For my custom 308, Would this be the wrong choice for my particular rifle. I would like to shoot out to 800 yds+- I wanted to hold out for the new Vortex PST line but this scope caught my eye and the PST's wont be out for another month+. I do realize that I can get other Mildot scopes for less expensive but I REALLY like the idea of the hash marks between the mildots to be more accurate in my target ranging. I have been playing with this long range shooting demo and I was spot on with the MOA reticle (which is what I really wanted) but im wondering if the hashmarks on this modded mildot would be just as effective. Any opinions?

i'm with you, the dot spacing with the mil dot seems a little too far apart for me. the marks in between certainly make it more attractive. wish they would get rid of the dots and just make them all hash marks, that would even be better IMHO. you just have to figure what yardage value for each.

It seems like I am finding flaw (things I would change but cant) in every scope I look at. I really like the new PST but I think im going to be in the same boat as far as the reticle not having the half MOA marks. I am considering trying the Mrad scope just because it has the half marks. I asked vortex if they had any plans to add half MOA marks between the MOA subtensions, he said as of right now they have not considered it. I think that would be a great add especially for us newbies.

you do realize the mil dots are 3.6 moa apart. the half marks on the Sightron's are 1.8 moa apart. it's a half mil-rad, but it's 1.8 moa. not a half moa like you're looking for.

I did see that, I am actually using a program right now with that exact reticle and I am doing good with it. I think that reticle and MOA turrets will suit me fine. Check out the demo. I just REALLY like having the hash marks to help me round to the nearest 10th

Shooterready.com

go to the demo part and choose which you want to use

just wait for the PST's to come out. a couple months after you use the setup you're talking about, you'll be sorry you just didn't wait for the moa/moa setup.
