Bump proof scope/rings

Today my heavy gun twisted sideways and the Nightforce bumped the bench. Not a bad bump really but it shifted the POI by 4 minutes. Is there a sure solution?

Re: Bump proof scope/rings

What kind of rings and bases are you using?? With a NF scope I would start with the rings and bases as it takes alot to move the POI in a NF scope.

Re: Bump proof scope/rings

Could it be that he bent the tube?

I bumped my Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 and because the objective sticks out so far from the front ring, I bent the tube. I know the NF is stronger, but would the ings and bases move before the tube would bend??

I was lucky enough to have my E42K replaced, even though I was told because it was bent slightly it was not covered under warranty. I recently did it again, and the POI shifted dramatically. I think it must be bent again, since when I crank it over in windage and elevation, it doesn't seem to make a differnce in POI. I'm hoping it might be something else. This thread makes me think I should double chekc it before sending it in and begging again.

Re: Bump proof scope/rings

Frank,

Give us some more info;

What was the range you were shooting at?
How many rounds fired just prior to the bump?
Was it perfectly zeroed?
How many rounds fired after to verify the shift?
Is it a BR or NXS?
What rings and bases are on it now?
Have the bases or ring come loose?
Action screws are tight?
Has the reticle or scope rotated?
Has the scope moved forward?
What cartridge the rifle shoots?
How much does it weigh?
Was the shift vertical or horizontal?
Have you shot it since and rezeroed it?
Does it hold a zero now?
What's the history on the load you're using, is it a new one?
