STEEL, Smaller the target and longer the range, more critical the parallax. For varmints and/or long range shooting, I think it is needed. For hunting big game under 600 yds., you can fake it. I usually have Leupold move the fixed parallax out to 200 yds. This has worked good for me. Also, remember that parallax is only present if you are not on the optical center of the scope. Learn a good weld spot on your stock and mount your scope low and you can get by for big game.
