your opintion on a long range setup

I am looking to get into 1000+ yard bench rest shooting. i have done some 600yard or less but i want to go farther and i am looking at getting a new gun and scope.

i have been looking at either the savage 6.5x284 benchrest model 12 or the model 12 f class.

Use the scope....leave the rest at home.

That depends on total preference. What do you LIKE and whats your intended usage?

If your doing benchrest, go with the Savage Target action and have the 30" 1:10 twist chambered in 300WSM. Use 210 or 215 Bergers and H4350 powder with F210M or CCI BR2 primers. I would use Norma brass, but its up to you which brass you use. This caliber and combo set the record at 1000yds last year in Williamsport at 2.8". I would definitely consider the benchrest stock. Its a very stable platform.

I can get them made with-out the adjustments as well.

for just a little more money you will have a much nicer rig, it will require you to buy a couple tools but once you have them you are able to change things whenever you want.

I call BS on skipping the factory rifle, until you shoot the barrel out. My 6.5x284 savage 12 f class was a 4-8" shooter at 1k with the factory barrel and a 12-42 nf with the np-r2 reticle, get the load right and it will treat you right for about 850 rounds as a ligth gun, just have a break installed to keep the rifle from torqing.
